Walgreens Will Begin Selling Cannabis Products in These States
One of the country’s largest drug store chains is looking to get their slice of the cannabis wellness craze.
You can now add Walgreens to the growing list of mainstream American retail chains that are moving into the cannabis space. The national drug store chain announced earlier this week that they would begin stocking products containing the non-intoxicating cannabis compound CBD in select states.
Shoppers in Oregon, Colorado, New Mexico, Kentucky, Tennessee, Vermont, South Carolina, Illinois and Indiana can soon expect to find a number of CBD wellness and beauty products in stock at their local Walgreens. Specific brands and products have yet to be announced, however.
“This product offering is in line with our efforts to provide a wider range of accessible health and wellbeing products and services to best meet the needs and preferences of our customers,” Walgreens spokesperson Brian Faith told CNBC.
The announcement from Walgreens comes just a week after their biggest competitor, CVS, also stated they would bring CBD products to a limited number of their own stores. Walgreens has tried to one up CVS, however, saying they will bring a wider variety of CBD products to 1,500 stores. CVS on the other hand will be introducing a more limited selection of CBD products to only 800 locations.
The popularity of CBD wellness and beauty products has skyrocketed since the passing of the Farm Bill effectively made the compound federally legal late last year. Since then, a number businesses looking to cash in on the expanding cannabis industry have been quick to begin stocking an number of CBD-infused products.
