European Union Leadership Hopeful Talks Cannabis: If it Was Up to Me We Would Make it Legal.’

Published on

This politician wants to make the European Union green — in more ways than one.

In a recent interview, Member of the European Parliament Ska Keller said, if it was up to me we would make [cannabis] legal.”

Elections for the European Parliament are set to take place between May 23 and 26 of this year. Keller is co-president of, and one of two leading candidates for, the Greens / European Free Alliance political group, who have held 47 seats in the European Parliament since the last elections in 2014.

In an interview with Euronews, Keller emphasized that we should have a close control, we should make sure that for example, minors don’t have access to cannabis and, by the way, the same goes for alcohol which is much more harmful.” You can watch the full clip of the interview below.

Keller is one of several politicians aiming to succeed current European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker.

Earlier this year, the EU passed a new resolution calling on member states to increase access to medical marijuana, as well as expand research efforts into cannabis.
