NBA Coach Says He’s Been Smoking a Lot of Marijuana Since Retirement

Published on

When most people retire, they usually move somewhere warm and start golfing or other similar activities. But one former NBA coach has picked up smoking marijuana in retirement.

Former NBA player and coach Don Nelson attended a press conference for the Golden State Warriors recently. During the press conference, Nelson was asked what he’s been doing since retiring and moving to Hawaii. He replied he’s been smoking marijuana.

I’ve been smoking some pot,” said Nelson about his retirement. I never smoked when I played or coached so it’s new to me. I’m doing that and I’m having a pretty good time. It’s more legal now than it’s ever been, so I’m enjoying that.”

In the quote below, Nelson’s former player Stephen Jackson really enjoys the coach’s answer.

This is actually not the first time Nelson has admitted to using marijuana during retirement. Last year in an interview with the New York Times, he said he grows his own marijuana which he calls Nellie Kush.”

Oh, it’s great. Great stuff. It’s called Nellie Kush,” Nelson said. It’s O.G. and Hindu Kush. Hindu Kush is really good. It comes from India and the guy that brought it over mixed the two of them, so we’ve got Nellie Kush now.”

He also apparently plays poker with Willie Nelson, Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson. Don Nelson’s living the life!
