NASA is Launching a Safety Review of SpaceX Because Elon Musk Smoked Weed

Published on

When Elon Musk smoked weed while appearing on Joe Rogan’s podcast a few months ago, he probably assumed no one would make a big deal out of it. And now he has to prove to NASA that it isn’t.

NASA announced that it is launching a review of SpaceX, a company owned by Elon Musk that is contracted to send astronauts to space, as well as Boeing to evaluate the cultures of both workplaces. The goal is to ensure that neither company has any policies or issues that could possibly impact the safety of astronauts going to space.

While NASA didn’t specifically say Musk’s weed smoking incident prompted the review, sources told the Washington Post that the video concerned high-ranking officials in the space agency and is making them rethink their relationship with SpaceX. A NASA spokesman also told the newspaper that part of the review includes adherence to a drug-free environment.”

This is a major development in American spaceflight. SpaceX conducted 18 successful launches so far this year, and said they were ready to start sending astronauts into space. But that would require NASA’s help, and that may now be in jeopardy.

This isn’t the only negative weed-related scandal to hurt Musk. A few months ago he was forced to step down as the chairman of Tesla, his electric car company, after tweeting out that he was going to take the company private at a $420 stock price. Obviously the $420 was a weed joke, but the Securities and Exchange Commission didn’t find it so funny and fined him $20 million.

We normally wouldn’t do this, but we think Elon should probably avoid doing anything weed related before he goes from a billionaire to a humble millionaire.
